Have you ever been called exotic?

I was called exotic by someone I previously admired and with that one sentence all my respect for him was lost.  He was a high ranking government official leading me to presume he was an intellectual. 

In one sentence he demonstrated that fancy diplomas and a successful career don't create a well rounded cultured person. 

In one sentence he rehashed the unenlightened rhetoric of what I thought the ignorant past.

In one sentence he reminded me that small mindedness is still everywhere.
