Feminine Phenomenon ~ A new Painting

Feminine: 1. The female sex or gender. 2.Having qualities or appearance traditionally associated with women, especially delicacy and prettiness.

Synonyms: dainty, effeminate, female, ladylike, soft, tender, womanish, womanly, fertile, maternal, muliebrous, fertile, gender, gynic,gender-specific, adylike, maidenly, matricentric, matripotestal, matronly, matronymic, muliebral, muliebrous, nulliparous, she

Today I present you with a photo of my latest painting titled, Feminine Phenomenon.

Feminine Phenomenon May 2011

I love language & words and I enjoy learning which is why you'll find definitions and synonyms in my posts.  Today's synonyms are quite CRINGE inducing especially when we compare how these words have been used in the past and how we think today.  BUT these words are still used today.

I mean you can call me pretty everyday of the week and I won't be mad but my blood would start boiling if someone described me as fertile or matronly.  I'll go with delicacy when I want heavy lifting or bug killing done but not when it comes to my ability to be the best at anything.

Beyond thoughts we need ACTION.

As a stereo-type rebel I encourage you to reject these definitions because

We are more than . . .
I am more than . . .

I encourage you to come up with a different way of describing women and our roles in society today.  Instead of fitting into the squares of yesterday I encourage you to create new ways. Let's change what's not working so we can live happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives.

Peace & Love

I love the richness of the colors in your painting, Letty. It's a powerful image. Some of these words I've never even heard!

The layers of images embedded in and amongst the splash of color...I'm always curious and you can answer if you wish or not...
where was your mind when you were painting it...the colors represent links to family of origin..
empowerment of your own voice and
hope meeting spirit....
I love this...
