It's Tuesday, time again for tips to help you succeed in creating your own Bella Vida. Each post focuses on one particular activity that you can apply to any area of life you wish to achieve success in. These are tactics can be used for business as well as personal goals. It's a work in progress that continues to evolve weekly. Previous posts can be found at the bottom of this one. This week I'm thinking of changing the series title to: How to Win
Previously we have set clear objectives and analyzed both our strengths and weaknesses. The next step is to focus on our resources. Good strategy makes the best use of the few means at our disposal. One principal of war strategy refers to this step as Economy of Effort. Economy of effort is the well thought-out exploitation of manpower, material and time in relation to the achievement of objectives. In business resource managements principle is to invest in resources as stored capabilities, then unleash the capabilities as demanded.
First we should look at what we have to bring to the table. After analyzing your strengths and weaknesses your list of strengths will serve as the first resources.
Next, looking beyond ourselves we turn to those in our immediate circle: family, community, library, businesses, government, learning institutions, nonprofit organizations, the internet..:
- - existing resources
- - free resources
- - who can help
- - time
- - capital
Once you figure out your current resources you can begin to categorize them and see precisely where in your strategy they fit. In business this term is known as resource allocation.
Types of Resources
Actual Resources
Have been surveyed, their quantity and quality determined, and are being used in present times.
Stock
The materials in the environment which have the potential to satisfy human needs but do not have the appropriate technology to access them.
Reserved Resources
These are the subset of stock, where use has not yet been started and are saved for future use.
Potential Resources
Potential resources are those that exist in a region and may be used in the future. After categorizing the resources you Do have it's time to compile the list of resources you do Not have. To help determine the viability of the resources you don't have, cross check them against time, energy and capital available. The ones that make it will become part of your strategy.
Related business terms are: action plan and resource plan.
We all have different objectives with that in mind here is a list of Free Resources that might be helpful.
