What are you saying?

Say: To express in words. To state as one's opinion or judgment; declare.

I suffer from an overactive mind. Thoughts are constantly firing. Sometimes I feel like my brain is going 200mph in several directions at once.  I'm in constant need of re-focusing so I found this trick I want to share with you.  When I sit down to create something I ask myself:

What are you saying?

As an artist, I need to know what I am saying at the time of creation.  This applies to everything from painting to writing.  Another great question to ask yourself right before beginning a project is:

What do you stand for?

I stand for peace, equality, freedom, human rights, education & protection of children, ending racism, sharing knowledge, sharing beauty, etc.

Now I turn to you, what are you saying?

Thank you very much for posting this. I also sometimes feel overwhelmed by the amount of ideas i have and the tasks that need to be done to bring said idea into fruition. I will try these techniques to focus on the important tasks at hand.

The mind is buzzing. Sometimes so much that it becomes white noise. Working on finding peace in the present and "being." I love the two questions. I ask them of my friends on paper. ; )
