I've told you about the magnificent Fontainebleau Miami Beach before. The place is absolutely fabulous. The moment you enter you are enveloped in clean lustrous luxury. In the lobby three gargantuan gold chandeliers shower down illumination in the form of golden glittery sparkles dancing on your skin. The opulent decor is textured and sensually curved furniture wrapped in white fabric and white leather is not only functional but also comfortable. You can't help but look sexy sitting there.
The nights event was part of the Fontainebleau 's BleauLive entertainment platform, a much more intimate experience with your favorite artists. I prefer it to the large arenas because you can get as close as you like and don't have to share them with a crowd. It feels like you have the performers pretty much all to yourself.
When I arrived at the Sparkle ballroom an audience was already gathered sipping complementary LeSutra drinks before the large center stage. Bars on both sides of the room flanked by empty white couches in the VIP sections while people mingled before the show. The neon concert lighting and flashing laser light show operated in conjunction with a giant screen above the DJ spinning a funky dub house music set. The audience was quite mixed ranging in both ethnicity and age.
I'm passionate about music and enjoy many different genres so Hip Hop is a huge part of the soundtrack to my life. It's pretty unbelievable with all of the music conferences and concerts I've attended I have never seen Nas live. Especially considering he's one of my favorite lyricists from back in the day.
Timbaland is a great producer & okay performer but terrible emcee with not much to say except shouting out girls with fake birthdays. The first to take the stage he moved the crowd and had them singing along to all of his pop hits. Then we were treated to a surprise hip hop set from DJ Kid Capri. Skillfully mixing the classics, he hyped the crowd so we were more than ready for Nas to take the stage. Nas came out and rocked it for a short set. He took it back with joints like 'Represent' and one of my all time favs 'One Love' before busting out with the newer hits like 'Bought Yourself a Gun' and the infamous drama filled 'Daughters'. Timbaland teased him for the drama filled song and playfully said he did not want to go there again. He killed it.
After Nas performed, Timbaland hit up the stage again with Mr.Magoo, followed by a little more of DJ Kid Capri's spinning skills. But the crowd saved up all of their love for the Queen of the night, Missy Elliott. You know you've partied to her jams. A slimmed down Missy E hit up the stage with a blinged out mic, shirt and cap. Her sparkling stage presence drove the audience wild electrifying the room. She drank up all of the energy the crowd was giving her and gave it right back to us. She was feeling the love. So much so that she got off the stage to dance with the crowd. We were loving it and I don't think that would've happened at a larger venue.
In between performing her classic hits like 'Work It', 'Get Your Freak On', 'Gossip Folk' and 'Lose Control' she would speak to the audience. It was during one of these breaks where she began telling the crowd how she was humbly grateful when Timbaland interrupted her with an 'Oh, there you go.'
I don't know if Missy Elliot gets it on a conscious level but it is her actions intertwined with gratitude that makes her grand. When you consciously act in this way you leave it wide open for life to reward you. She continued thanking and the crowd responded back with even more love.
Missy Elliot wrapped up her set by dropping a sneak peak of not one but two upcoming unreleased singles. Yup, they're sure to be big party hits.
Thank goodness for those sugary drinks because I danced all night.
Have you seen any of these artists live?
Do you prefer arenas or smaller venues?
PS: I'm an even bigger Missy Elliot fan <3 love <3 her
